HOLLYWOOD - It looks like Ice Cube will be keeping
it real on A&E.
The rap icon and Hollywood success story has signed a deal with the
cable and satellite television network to produce "Good in the Hood," an
hour-long pilot for an unscripted drama series that finds gang members
and urban criminals who have changed their ways and are looking to
help one other person do the same.
In a statement, Cube, who would introduce each episode, said his goal
is not to revel in the thug life but to shine a light on good deeds
done in troubled neighborhoods:
"This show is a way to demonstrate what is going on in a positive
way in the urban community."
Rob Sharenow, A&E's senior vice president of nonfiction and alternative
programming, told Daily Variety that Cube will be a core creative influence
on every episode if only because of personal experience.
"He comes from very difficult beginnings, growing up in a bad neighborhood
in South Central L.A.," Sharenow said. "He transformed his own life."
